Spurling Model of Costs
Stage-Based
Clarity
A clear legal roadmap from the outset
Your matter is divided into logical stages — such as pleadings, discovery, or hearing. We identify the relevant stages early on so you have clarity around the scope and expected progression of your case.
Capped
Professional Fees
Certainty on legal fees — flexibility on third-party costs
For each stage, we estimate our professional fees and apply a Stage Cap. This gives you cost certainty. If the work is less than the cap, you only pay what’s incurred.
Note: Disbursements (e.g. court fees, barristers’ fees, expert reports) are additional and not included in the cap.
Transparent,
Fair Billing
Billing that reflects time, expertise, and value — never guesswork
We charge in 1-minute increments based on each team member’s experience. A loading of up to 25% may be applied to reflect skill and care — but always remains within the Stage Cap.
Designed for
Commercial Clients
Commercial clarity meets strategic litigation
This model is built for business-minded clients who value cost predictability. It supports internal budgeting, reduces invoice shock, and aligns our incentives with your outcomes.
Start with a conversation that cuts through.
Whether you’re dealing with a commercial dispute, regulatory issue, or a disagreement between business owners, the first step is getting clear on your position.
At Spurling Legal, we’re built for complexity — but we speak plainly. If you’re unsure whether we’re the right firm for your matter, you’re welcome to contact us for a brief, no-obligation call. We’ll listen to the key issues and let you know whether it’s something we may be able to assist with.
If you prefer a more structured discussion, you can book a 30-minute initial consultation. This session is billed at our standard hourly rate of $500 + GST. During the session, we will obtain your instructions, discuss your matter in detail, and may provide some initial preliminary guidance based on the information provided. After the session, we will prepare and provide a tailored cost agreement for your consideration.
